Our Story
Indoor Environment Connections is an independent trade newspaper owned by Indoor Environment Communications and serving the indoor environmental marketplace. The monthly newspaper was launched in November 1999.

IE Communications is located in Rockville, Maryland, about 15 minutes outside of Washington, D.C. In addition to its publishing work, IE Communications provides services to several non-profit organizations. IE Communications is the association management company for the Indoor Air Quality Association, and has served as a consultant to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association, Indoor Environment Institute, and Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification. IE Communications is the current management company for the Indoor Air Quality Association.

Our mission for IE Connections is to develop a forum where individuals, companies and organizations representing various disciplines can unite to share expertise to solve indoor environmental problems – a lofty goal but one that we feel is absolutely necessary.

Why? We believe there is no cohesive “IAQ industry.” There’s a healthy marketplace of practitioners, regulators, manufacturers, scientists, healthcare providers, facility managers and other professions all involved in solving IAQ problems, yet each group marches to the beat of its own set of standards, associations and experts. Even among the self-professed “IAQ professionals,” we’re just now seeing good case studies of creating multidisciplinary “teams” to solve indoor environmental problems – a goal that has been touted for years but practiced very little. While there is some level of consistency, there is little unity in the IAQ messages that are provided to the consumer.

We believe good IAQ information, programs, products and services aren’t just for the children’s health advocates. It’s about a lot more. It’s about providing everyone with the tools necessary for a healthy indoor environment. It’s about developing new technology, standards of care, adequate ventilation rates, proper building designs and codes. It’s about good training for our practitioners.

It’s also about money. Indoor environments is not a flat market by any means. It’s a marketplace full of individuals, businesses and organizations that we know are strategically positioning themselves to do great things. We can all learn from each other but only if we know eventually what the other guy is doing.

It’s been mentioned that there is no unity in the IAQ messages that are provided to the consumer. We believe few have been taking the lead on this issue because it’s such a tall order. Think about it: No one organization tracks all this information from all the different groups and perspectives. We are a marketplace in search of true solutions to indoor environmental problems, but the only way to accomplish this task is to examine all the information and all the possibilities. We aim to make IE Connections an information resource to keep you connected to what everyone else in the world is doing about indoor environmental issues.

Making the Connection
Our team of savvy industry insiders has assembled a blue-ribbon panel of professionals to serve as an Editorial Advisory Board to IE Connections.

IE Connections’ Editorial Advisory Board reads like a virtual who’s-who list of the indoor environmental marketplace. It’s a well-rounded group including field practitioners, researchers, analytic experts, trainers, manufacturers and public health advocates.

IE Connections has also partnered with several industry organizations whose members both read the newspaper and contribute to it with editorial and technical submissions. Partners include: Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA), Indoor Environmental Standards Organization (IESO), Environmental Information Association (EIA), National Air Filtration Association (NAFA), National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), Associated Air Balance Council (AABC), American Indoor Air Quality Council (AmIAQ), Maine Indoor Air Quality Council (MIAQC), Servpro Industries, Chelsea Group, University of Tulsa, Mid-Atlantic Environmental Hygiene Resource Center, and more.

On The Internet
IE Connections has a strong online presence as well. The newspaper’s Web site, www.ieconnections.com, contains an archive of technical articles, links to Web pages hosted by nonprofits and educational institutions, and product and service providers in the indoor environmental quality field. IE Connections’ Web site is an important benefit for newspaper advertisers. “Advertisers get a free link in the Product Connection section of the Web site,” says Diane Chester.

The site is hosted by Webfoot.Net, the leading Web design and hosting company for the IAQ marketplace.
